3. Low-carbon cooling techniques

Group leader: Associate Prof. Takashi Asawa, Tokyo Institute of Technology

Activity Plan

•Investigate traditional techniques embedded in vernacular architecture and identify effective passive cooling techniques for the hot-humid climate of Indonesia.

•Implement sensitivity analysis for different passive cooling techniques using numerical simulation models and identify detailed design parameters and their combinations for test buildings.

•Examine the applicability of window systems with different thermal and ventilating performances using the test buildings and develop low-carbon window systems.

•Examine combinations of the window systems and other passive cooling techniques (e.g. PCM, shading devices, ventilation systems) and find effective combinations.

•Analyze thermal and energy performances of the combined passive cooling systems for the test buildings and affordable apartments by experiments and numerical simulations.

•Develop comprehensive cooling systems for affordable apartments in Indonesia based on the above results.
